On Friday July 7, the staff and board of Washington Filmworks joined members of Washington State’s film industry at the State Capitol as Governor Jay Inslee signed the bill to renew the Motion Picture Competitiveness Program for 10 years.
With this act, the Governor mandated the continued existence of the Washington State Film Office and Film Incentive through 2027, bringing reliable work to our state’s film community, generating economic growth, and facilitating film production across our state in countless ways.
After the uncertainty of a lengthy budget negotiation, Friday’s bill signing ceremony was a decisive win for the Keep Film in WA campaign—and an undeniable relief from the last few months of nail-biting. This ceremony marks the beginning of a renewed commitment to Washington filmmakers by legislators in Olympia, and we look forward to working together to expand on the solid foundation that was built during the first decade of the MPCP.
